Very first issue of this rare and influential GDR oppositional bulletin, published in three issues (on November 8, November 31, and December 20, 1989). Founded on September 9–10, 1989 in Grünheide near Berlin, the civic initiative and initially including Katja Havemann, Bärbel Bohley, Jutta Seidel, Olaf Freund, Rolf Henrich, Hans-Jochen Tschiche, Martin Böttger and others. The meeting, which would alter the course of the remaining fifty-five weeks of the GDR regime, led to the founding document of the movement, “Aufbruch 89 – Neues Forum,” which stated its key goals and led to the publication of the present samizdat journal.

Similar periodicals appeared in Leipzig, Dresden, and other East German cities. After the fall of the regime, in 1990, the periodical was continued with the new title Neues Forum Bulletin (ceased 1998). This initial group of publications is very rare and we cannot trace only one holding via KVK, OCLC as of June 2024. Additional copies are held by the Havemann Gesellschaft.
