From the 1960s on, Bohumila Grögerová (1921–2014), together with her creative companion and life partner Josef Hiršal, was one of the most important representatives of concrete and experimental poetry in Czechoslovakia. After the Prague Spring of 1968, the couple was unable to publish original work, although numerous texts appeared in samizdat form and they also continued their career as prolific translators.
