[RARE SCREEN-PRINTED KOLÁŘ POSTER] Kolář, Jiří. Collagen Rollagen Objekte. 29.5.–15.8.1970. Original screen printed poster for an exhibition at Galerie Wendtorf + Swetec, printed in an unspecified, but small run.
Düsseldorf: Mankopf Siebdruck, 1970. Original screen-printed poster on thick card stock, measuring 96.5 × 68 cm. Very good. Item #P4404
Screen-printed poster based on a collage entitled "Jízdní řád" (Timetable). A a distinguished Czech artist and poet, Kolář (1914–2002) was the co-founder of the existentialist post-war group “Skupina 42” (Group 42) and ultimately became best known for his innovative collages. His period of visual experimentation began with an interest in concrete poetry in the 1960s, while part of the Kavárna Slavia group along with Václav Havel and Josef Hiršal. The present poster was evidently produced for an exhibition held at a Düsseldorf gallery and showing Kolář's collages, rollages, and other objects. According to the former owner, the poster was produced locally in a very small print run (fewer than eighty copies). A variant of this poster, with additional text and printed using offset, is frequently found, but this screen-printed original is rare.
We are unable to locate any institutional holdings; the location of the original collage that served as the motif for the poster is also unknown.
