A lovely Russian emigre children's book, containing four stories for younger readers by Russian writer Lev Tolstoy: "Arkhierei i razboinik," "Okhota pushche nevoli," "Bog pravdu vidit, da ne skoro skazhet," and "Kavkazskii plennik." With four attractive, expressive line drawings by Ia. Shtiren, about whom we were unable to find further information. Children's books published by Russian emigres in 1920s Berlin are rarely seen in the trade in good condition. Moreover, the bibliographical information contained within provides clues to the notoriously difficult publishing history of children's books published in Berlin, most of which did not feature the name of the publisher.
