Originally distributed as a free supplement to the children's journal "Detskii drug" (The child's friend), this booklet is divided into two parts and contains advice on constructing a home-made "mechanical theatre", including instructions on preparing marionettes, a river, a small house, etc., as well as numerous schematics and drawings. The second part focuses on mastering the art of "geliominiatiura" -- decorating photographs with oil paints, also to be done by the children. An interesting document of late imperial pedagogy and the performing arts.
