Beroun: Antonín Šefl, 1926. Octavo (24.5 × 16 cm). Original pictorial wrappers by V. Taišl; 96 pp. Light soil and wear; else about very good. Item #6501
A rare Czech sci-fi novel, which Hampl sets in his native Beroun Valley outside of Prague. The unbalanced Dr. Holm has finally come up with a wonder drug that enables people to forget the past, but will it bring more suffering to his young love-spurned patient? On the effects of deliberately white-washing the memory, a theme successfully explored 80 years later by Charlie Kaufman in his screenplay for "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." Striking wrapper design by V. Taišl. This is copy number 149 of 500 on Japanese paper.
