Portfolio of decorative patterns, lettering and ornament samples, housed in the original paper folder. The preface explains the author's goals in the context of modern Czech design and art pedagogy, and describes the proper uses for the plates. One of numerous examples of the bourgeoning culture of art and drawing pedagogy across all social classes and into the smallest towns, so characteristic of Czech culture during the early twentieth century. As Jindřich Toman notes in his study of Czech Cubism, the “pedagogization of modern art is a salient feature of Czech modernism." (Toman, Czech Cubism and the Book, 174).
