A group of sixteen catalogs by the legendary Paris rare book dealer and collector André Savine (1946–1999), who amassed one of the largest collections of documents pertaining to the life of the Russian diaspora, now held at UNC Chapel Hill. Born in Paris to Russian White émigré parents, Savine began his book career working for the YMCA Press book shop in Paris in the 1970s, where he founded a rare book department. In 1979 he opened his own store, which he ran until his early death in 1999. The present catalogs note that “each book listed in the catalog is available in one copy only” and requests that the catalogs be passed on by the viewers to friends and “other book lovers”. The catalogs are organized alphabetically, by author, and range from pre-Revolutionary publications, to works published in the diaspora, as well as books published in the Soviet Union, throughout the Soviet period. The descriptions are unusually thorough, often incorporating Savine's extensive knowledge of Russian émigré books and original research. Scarce in commerce.
