Rare catalog for an early exhibition of paintings and drawings by Czech surrealists Jindřich Štyrský and Toyen held at the Aventine Mansard exhibition space in Prague. Toyen showed eighteen works dated to 1928 and 1929; Štyrský exhibited fifty works including drawings and watercolors, including works for major publications, such as Vítězslav Nezval's "Jewish Cemetery" (1923). Most works were offered for sale, with retail prices. With an essay by Nezval titled "Lístek do katalogu" (Catalog entry) by Nezval, which offers a detailed attempt to characterize and contrast the work of the two artists. Earlier works by the pair had been shown in Brno in 1924 as part of a Devětsil group exhibition. The present exhibition may be the first to showcase their mature Surrealist work after their prolonged stay in Paris, from which they returned in 1928.

Toyen (the pseudonym of Marie Čerminová) was one of the most accomplished artists of the Czech avant-garde, an early member of the Devětsil group and long-time collaborator of Jindřich Štyrský. She is best known for her surrealist, often highly erotic, work as an illustrator. Toyen also experimented with fluid gender roles, alternating male and female attire, and preferring a gender-neutral pseudonym and the masculine singular form in spoken Czech. One of the items exhibited in the present show was Toyen's "Šero v pralese" (Twilight in the forest, 1929), which resurfaced in 2017 and became one of the most expensive Czech paintings sold at auction.

The Aventine Mansard was a small exhibition space and bookshop by the Aventinum publishing house, active in 1927–1931.
