An illustrated almanac, published by the girl and boy scout divisions of the Chicago branch of “Plast”, a patriotic Ukrainian scouting organization which was founded in Lviv in 1911. Plast continued to operate clandestinely during WWII and later in displaced persons (DP) camps in Germany. After the dispersion of Ukrainian DPs in the early 1950s, many Ukrainians settled in the United States, with Plast branches formed in New York, Philadelphia, Detroit, and Chicago. The Chicago girl scout division was named after the 19th century author Marko Vovchok (pseudonym of Maria Vilinsky-Makarovich), with the boy scouts named after the founder of the Plast movement Ivan Chmola. The portraits and life stories of these personalities open this volume. Illustrations throughout the volume include photos of boy scout formations, girl scouts folding the flag, engaging in sporting activities, as well as folk dancing. The volume also includes articles about camping in the Adirondack Mountains, a visit from Lithuanian scouts, as well as a section with jokes and caricatures. Advertising to last pages including for Voice of Ukraine radio, a credit union, Ukrainian bakeries, housing cooperatives, as well as publisher advertising of a Ukrainian print shop to last page. Cover illustration by Zenon Golubets (1927–2006), Ukrainian-American painter and sculptor. One of 1000 copies printed.
