Unattributed postcard published by Czechoslovak Legion volunteers in France, who fought alongside the French with considerable casualties in WWI (over six hundred dead). The Czechs in France also issued a publication aimed at the "Czech Colony in France" which appeared with varying titles as a simple new bulletin in 1915–1916. Beginning in March 1917, a more elaborately printed and occasionally illustrated journal began to appear, which may have been connected with the publication of this postcard. The journal's goal was both to inform about the ongoing involvement of fellow countrymen, providing statistics and news, and to provide moral support and inspiration for the work ahead. Czech and Slovak volunteers fought in the French Foreign Legion since August 1914, forming a Czech battalion that served in the Moroccan division, but Czechs also served in various other divisions. In December 1917, the French government decreed the creation of an autonomous Czechoslovak Army.
