A musical score with lyrics for children, including dozens of Ukrainian folk songs, songs of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen, as well as songs by top Ukrainian composers such as Roman Kupchynski, Аnatole Vakhnianyn, Mykola Lysenko, Kyrylo Stetsenko, Filaret Kolessa, and Mykhailo Verbytsky, most famous for writing the tune for the Ukrainian National Anthem. The selection of music in the volume reflects the musical canon of Ukrainian diaspora in the United States, starting with the songs of the Sich Riflemen, a division of Ukrainian troops in the Austro-Hungarian army in WWI which later participated in the Polish-Ukrainian War, with many of the former members as well as sympathizers later settling in North America. The volume was published by “Howerla” (Hoverla) one of the largest Ukrainian publishing houses in the United States, founded by Mykola Sydor-Chartotyiskyi (1913–1993) in 1950. Born in Galicia, Sydor-Chartotyiskyi was arrested by the Polish government in 1934 for being a member of the OUN (Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists). He later studied at the Ukrainian Free University in Prague, the only University with instruction in Ukrainian outside of Ukraine. In 1947 he moved to the United States, where he ran the publishing house Hoverla for over 30 years, publishing hundreds of books in Ukrainian.
As of March 2025, KVK, OCLC show only one copy in North America.
