Catalog of the early exhibition of experimental works by Richard Kriesche, published as the eighth issue of the artist journal “Pfirsich”. For this exhibition, Kriesche conceived, among other things, his well-known “Video Installation 1”, which displays gallery visitors on two monitors. The visitors activate two video cameras by pressing a bell: one camera is placed outside the room, the other inside. These record the visitor as they enter, allowing them to see themselves entering the exhibition space from the front and from behind. Not least because of such works, which reflect critically on the art world itself, Kriesche is regarded today as an important pioneer and theorist of contemporary media art. (Cf. The journal “Pfirsich” was published in 18 nos. between 1970 and 1976 by the three media artists Karl Neubacher, Richard Kriesche, and Horst Gerhard Haberl as a periodical of their artists' association “Pool”, which was founded in 1969. The group was modeled on the “Artist Placement Group” in London, which sought to blur the boundaries between the art world and society by placing artists in other social and institutional contexts. This interdisciplinarity was particularly evident in the career of Neubacher, who worked primarily as a commercial artist. The journal appeared at irregular intervals. The thematic focuses were primarily on actionism, body art, design, media art, and advertising graphics. (Cf. Cat. Neubacher, Graz 2014)
