Fifth and final volume of this series dedicated to woodcuts in book design and bookplates, published as a tribute to one of the initiators of the series, Nikolai Brimmer (1898–1929), after his early death. Born in Kyiv, Brimmer studied at the Graphic Arts Department of the All-Russian Higher Art and Industrial School (VKhUTEIN) in Petrograd in 1923–1927, with graphic masters such as Dmitrii Mitrokhin and Georgii Vereisky. After graduating he designed numerous bookplates and initiated this series which would cease publication after his death. The volume contains illustrations of Brimmer’s work, including his bookplates and woodcuts for the works of Nikolai Gogol, for which he is best remembered today. Further contains book reviews and a timeline of the reorganization of Soviet art institutions to last few pages of the volume. One of 600 copies.
