One of the most striking wrapper designs by Jaan Vahtra (1882–1947), a prominent Estonian avant-garde artist and illustrator and leader of the Artists’ Group of Cubism and Constructivism (founded 1923). Jakobson (1904–1963) was a communist writer who won the literary award of the Loodus publishing house with this work, which first led to wider acclaim. In 1939, Jakobson was elected to the Estonian Writers’ Union and after the Soviet occupation he led the Soviet Writer’s Union of Estonia (1944–1954).
