First edition of this catalog of the circulating Library of Perkins Institution and Massachusetts School for the Blind, founded in Watertown, Massachusetts in 1829, with the library created in 1835. The catalog is divided by embossed alphabets: Line Type, American Braille, and New York Point. In addition to English Braille, the catalog includes works in embossed alphabets adapted to German, French, Latin, Greek and Esperanto. Aside from a large section on children’s literature, the books cover a variety of school subjects such as Arithmetic, Astronomy, Physics, Geology, History, as well as “Useful Arts” such as poultry management, butter making, and basket weaving.
