A substantial run (28 issues of 45 published) of this weekly publication of Frente Revolucionario Democratico (Cuban Democratic Revolutionary Front; FRD), an anti-Castro revolutionary organization founded in May 1960 by an international coalition of Cuban exiles, with strong US government support. The short articles (uncredited) report on resignations within the Castro government, purges within the Castro administration, and false promises of the Soviet aid to Cuba. Illustrated with anti-Castro and anti-Soviet caricatures, the issues also include direct calls to arms against the Castro regime. An anti-Communist, far-right organization, the FRD was a forerunner of the more moderate Cuban Revolutionary Council (CRC), and was later absorbed by it in October 1961. According to the AARC (Assassination Archives and Research Center) report: “The proclaimed purpose of FRD was to establish a democratic government in Cuba through the use of military force. The FRD set up headquarters initially in Mexico, but recruited most of its proposed invasion force from Miami. The military arm of the FRD was known as Brigade 2506. The Brigade was eventually composed of 1443 men who were trained by the U.S. Army specialists at two sites on the south coast of Guatemala.” The troops recruited by the FRD took part in the failed Bay of Pigs invasion in April of 1961, with over 1000 Brigade’s members captured in the offensive. The FRD never recovered from the failure, with the last issue of this newspaper published in October 1961. Little is known about the editor of the publication Dr. Angel Del Cerro, who seems to have been involved in Cuban radio program “Universidad del Aire” in 1959. Published October 1960 – October 1961, with issues in this collection dating from January 4, 1961 through October 2, 1961.

Rare; as of April 2024 KVK, OCLC show only one nearly complete set at the University of Miami, and two single issues each at Florida International University and UT Austin.
