First Czech edition of Breton's essay, originally published in 1932, which explores the relationship between reality and dreams, and which also includes a brief correspondence with Sigmund Freud. It was the first of Breton's texts to be translated into Czech. Toyen drew directly on Max Ernst for the design of the cover image, using his technique of making collages from nineteenth-century steel engravings. Official collaboration between the Parisian Surrealists and the Prague circle around Nezval, Toyen, and Štyrský, and finally Teige, occurred when Breton and Eluard went to Prague in the spring of 1935; a return visit by the Prague group followed in the fall.
