Paris: [Librairie Jean Budry et Cie], 1923. Folio (46.4 × 31.6 cm). Newsprint, once folded; [4] pp. Stabilized with washi paper; small missing areas on the edges and folds. Item #52988

The only issue of this journal published on the occasion of the Salon des Indépendants 1923. The satirical articles about the art world were probably all written by the art critic Paul Budry (1883–1949) under a pseudonym and published by his brother Paul Budry under the name of his bookshop, which is advertised on two pages. The contributions mainly deal with Cubism "Comment va-t-il?" (How is he doing?). Fluctuations in the evaluation of painters are illustrated with a weather diagram entitled "Feuille de température" (Temperature chart). Furthermore, artists are sorted into lines of tradition with the help of two family trees. The diagram entitled "État-civil" (Civil status) contains, for example, the names of Bissière, Blaise Cendrars, Albert Gleizes, Juan Gris, Fernand Léger, Jean Lurçat, Amédée Ozenfant, Francis Picabia, Ossip Zadkine, etc. Also includes advertisements for the journal "Clarté" by Henri Barbusse, "La Rotonde", "La Closerie des Lilas" and various signs in the Montparnasse district.

In 1913, Paul Budry organized the first exhibition of Cubist painting in French-speaking Switzerland, in Lausanne and Geneva. As an art critic, he regularly contributed articles to the press. He was a friend of the painters Charles Clément, Rodolphe-Théophile Bosshard, and Félix Vallotton and dedicated monographs to them. His art criticism was also appreciated for its literary quality.
