London: Kruh priatel'ov československej knihy (printed by S. Sidders & Son, Ltd., Kilburn), 1944. Octavo (18 × 12.3 cm). Original pictorial wrappers; 117, [2] pp. About very good; very light overall wear and soil to wrappers. Item #52581
Second of two volumes of poetry from the Slovak anti-Nazi resistance during World War II, published by Slovaks in British exile. The present book was preceded by a 1941 volume entitled "Pred ohnivým drakom" (Before the fiery dragon), with the same subtitle. The poems in this volume were largely written during 1942 and passed from reader to reader in clandestine fashion, until this first publication in exile. With an interesting lengthy introduction by the editor, Vlado Clementis, which touches on the phenomenon of "unwritten" and "illegal" Slovak literature.
