First edition of this extensive history of the Russian theatre at the beginning of the twentieth century, up until the Russian Revolution of 1917, divided into sections on: Russian theatre prior to 1900; the Moscow Art Theatre; the "Fight with naturalism and realism"; theatre and revolution. Evgenii A. Znosko-Borovsky (1884-1954) was a St. Petersburg-born chess player and theoretician, as well as a dramaturg and theatre critic. He assisted the Volunteer Army during the Civil War and emigrated in 1920, settling in France. A frequently cited resource to this day. No copies in the trade.
